Julia (Bunny) Jaakola, LSW, MSW, LGSW, Coordinator of the Behavioral Health Department at the Human Services Center on the Fond du Lac Reservation. Bunny attended and graduated from the Cloquet Public Schools and earned her BSW from The College of St. Scholastica and later completed her MSW at the University of Minnesota Duluth. From 1987 to the present she has been employed at the Fond du Lac Human Services Division where she has served in various administrative roles including the Coordinator of the Social Services and now, Behavioral Health Departments.

Bunny has been recognized as a leader in her field throughout Indian Country and was honored with an Indian Health Service Area Director's Award for Managerial Excellence. She led the tribes in Minnesota in negotiating a model Tribal-State Indian Child Welfare Agreement and chaired the Indian Child Welfare Advisory Board for over 14 years. Currently she represents Fond du Lac on the Mn. American Indian Mental Health Advisory Council where she is the co-chairperson. Bunny also worked with the National Indian Child Welfare Association staff in the development of the Indian Child Welfare Certification process. Currently she is a social work adjunct faculty for The College of St. Scholastica.

Over the years she served on numerous boards and task forces focusing on child and family welfare, developing a network of knowledgeable contacts and gaining a wealth of information that she will be sharing with our counterparts and others in the Peer-to-Peer Dialogue Program. She is honored to be included in this exciting exchange.
